Last week, our Head of Data Science, Petr Paščenko, and Data Scientist Sergii Stamenov attended the DataWorks Summit #DWS19 held in Barcelona. Here are some of their brief impressions:
As the event was hosted by Cloudera, the upcoming merge with Hortonworks was a hot topic. For a data scientist, it is positive to hear that the plan is to keep Hadoop available as an open-source technology. Overall, the event was well-attended and full of inspirational speakers. Kudos to the organizers!
Some noteworthy talks:
• Dor Kedem (ING Bank): Model Factory at ING Bank
Dor spoke about their approach to customer data & analysis. The talk illustrated the complexity and a high level of nuance within the Data Science industry beautifully. This concerns the ever-evolving labelling and task division between employees handling data, which in the case of ING involves job titles such as Customer Journey Experts, Data Engineers, Data Analysts and Data Scientist.

• Sagar Kewalramani, Justin Norman (Cloudera): Machine Learning Model Deployment
Segar and Justin shared how they tackle the issue of the ML model deployments to business environments. As production machine learning often pursues different objectives to machine learning per se, different workflows and deployment models are needed. They introduced a number of inspirational tools, which can be adopted for this purpose.

In two weeks, we are headed to another data science gathering, Big-Data.AI Summit #BAS19 , this time in Berlin. We extend our invitation to all clients and potential partners. Which conferences are you attending this year?
