Project Background
A leading reinsurance company in Central and Eastern Europe decided to build a new business intelligence (BI) environment in cooperation with Profinit. The company’s management aimed to establish an efficient reporting system based on consolidated and validated data.
The project began with an analytical phase focused on existing data sources, reporting outputs, and reporting preparation processes. Based on this analysis, Profinit proposed a complete BI architecture and implementation approach using the Profinit BI Suite.
Business Needs
The solution needed to meet the following specifications:
- The client lacked a consolidated reporting system matching the needs of a reinsurance company of its category
- Most reporting was done manually using Excel tables, resulting in low credibility, high workload, and complicated maintenance
- The company needed to consolidate data from SAP RI, SAP FI and manual XLS inputs into a single reporting environment
- The solution had to provide cleansed and verified data to improve decision-making for strategic and tactical management
- Another key requirement was to reduce operational and development costs by minimizing manual work
Challenge
The main challenge was the absence of a unified reporting environment and the heavy reliance on manually prepared Excel reports. This caused high demands on manual work, low flexibility, and difficult maintenance of the reporting solution.
Another challenge was consolidating and cleansing data from multiple source systems while ensuring high data quality. During the project, the parent company required a change of the solution’s technology, which needed to be managed without affecting project timelines.
Solution & Results
Profinit designed and implemented a comprehensive BI solution consisting of a data warehouse and the first phase of a reporting environment. The delivery included a reporting map describing the current and target reporting state and a complete BI data model with detailed metadata.
A functioning data warehouse was implemented, filled with consolidated data and equipped with an automatic daily update mechanism processing up to 200 source extracts per day, including data quality verification.
Profinit delivered seven complex reports using SAP BusinessObjects for managerial, sales, and financial reporting. The solution also provided a data foundation for the second phase of reporting, focusing on regulatory reporting.
The system was successfully handed over and put into production, meeting all deadlines and quality requirements, and users were trained to work with the new reporting environment. Despite a required technology change requested during the project, the schedule remained unaffected.
