Critical System Integrating Data
SUMMARY
- Client
- Prague Airport
Profinit created and maintains the Central Airport Operational Database (CAODB) system for Prague Airport. CAODB integrates and publishes data from/to operational systems, such as the resource planning s(RMS), the baggage-handling system, and the passenger information display system. The airport’s effective collaborative decision making (CDM) implementation, thanks to our CAODB, was recognized as IT Project of the Year.

Project Background
Profinit has provided Prague Airport with solutions for the integration of key operational data for over 15 years. We created and continue to maintain the Central Airport Operational Database (CAODB) as the operational data backbone. CAODB consolidates flight, resource, and passenger-facing data and distributes it in real time to systems such as resource planning, baggage handling, and terminal displays. The platform has operated for years in a 24/7, SLA-backed regime.
Challenge
We had a situation with multiple time-critical systems and stakeholders generating data in different formats and at different speeds. Errors could cascade into delays, sub-optimal gate allocation, and poor passenger experiences.
The platform therefore had to integrate heterogeneous feeds with minimal latency, keep a single version of the truth, instantly recover from bad inputs, run continuously, and bridge legacy airline messaging with modern APIs—all while maintaining clear data governance.
Business Needs
The solution needed to meet the following requirements:
- Unite fragmented operational data into one source of truth for all downstream systems
- Improve punctuality and resource utilization
- Guarantee always-on reliability with clear SLAs and rapid incident response
- Enforce consistent master-data governance across the ecosystem
- Ingest and standardize legacy airline messages alongside modern integrations
Solution & Results
Profinit delivered CAODB as the single operational data backbone. CAODB consolidates and distributes real-time operational data to resource planning, baggage, and passenger-information systems, governs operational code lists centrally, and provides safe rollback of invalid inputs so errors don’t cascade.
On this foundation, Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) could be applied effectively: teams share the same live data, resequence departures early, and use slots better. A-CDM (enabled by CAODB’s unified data) improved average departure time by ~30 seconds, and weekly fuel savings are roughly equivalent to one Airbus A330 round trip Prague–Paris.
The CAODB system is mission-critical, so Profinit provides 24/7 technical support for it with very strict SLAs.
The effective CDM implementation, thanks to our CAODB at Prague Airport, was recognized as “IT Project of the Year” in 2011 by the Czech Association of Information Technology Managers (CACIO).
